There's Always A Choice

Key Thought | Every day, from the moment we wake up, we make choices, each one revealing who we are truly serving.

But if you refuse to serve the Lord, then choose today whom you will serve. But as for me and my family, we will serve the Lord.”  — Joshua 24:15 (NLT)

From the moment the alarm goes off, our day begins with decisions. Do we hit snooze or get up? Coffee first or breakfast? Time spent with Jesus or time scrolling our phones?

Maybe you’re thinking, I don’t have time for any of that. I already hit snooze, and now I’m rushing to work. And that’s the point. From the moment we open our eyes, we begin making choices. Our first choices often shape the direction of our day. As the hours go on, big and small decisions stack up, and every single one has weight.

Joshua’s challenge to Israel still speaks to us today: “Choose today whom you will serve.” It’s a daily decision, not a one-time declaration. Will we serve our flesh by doing what’s easiest, or will we serve the Lord by choosing what draws us closer to Him? It’s not always comfortable, but our choices reveal our priorities.

God cares about every detail of our lives: the food we eat, the conversations we have, even the tone of our voice. Each moment gives us a chance to reflect His heart or satisfy our own desires. When we pause and invite Him into our choices, we start to see ordinary decisions become opportunities for worship.

Paul reminds us in Colossians 3:17, “And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.”

Today, as you move through the routine moments and the unexpected ones, ask yourself: Who am I serving right now? Every decision, big or small, is an invitation to serve the Lord with gratitude and purpose.

Prayer | God, thank You for who You are. Today, I choose to serve You in every detail of my life. Let Your Holy Spirit guide my steps, shape my words, and convict my heart so that my choices draw me closer to You. Help me to live today in a way that reflects Your love and honors Your name. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Journal | What are some small, daily choices that often pull my focus away from God? How can I invite Him into those moments and begin choosing to serve Him instead of myself?
