Give Me Jesus

Key Thought | The goal of our faith isn’t to achieve more for Jesus. It’s to know Him more deeply. Everything else fades in comparison to the beauty of His presence.
“God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by His Son…” — Hebrews 1:1–2 (NKJV)
I was reading this recently and was stopped almost immediately by that phrase: “has in these last days spoken to us by His Son.” It struck a deep chord in my heart.
Over this last year and a half, I’ve really leaned into knowing Jesus. I know that may sound a little concerning given my job, but it’s the truth. In the years of ministry, somewhere along the way, I had become satisfied with what I knew about Him instead of realizing there is always more to know.
How powerful is it that we have access to Jesus, not through a person, a podcast, or even (as funny as it is) the very devotional you’re reading. Right now, at this very moment, He is available and present.
How often I’ve skipped over that truth. In my pursuit of doing something great for Him, I’ve so often forgotten that His greatest desire is simply that I would know Him and be known by Him.
The pursuit of our life is not relevance, fame, impact, influence, followers, or even ministry. The pursuit of our life is Him.
“Yes, everything else is worthless when compared with the infinite value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For His sake I have discarded everything else, counting it all as garbage, so that I could gain Christ and become one with Him. I no longer count on my own righteousness through obeying the law; rather, I become righteous through faith in Christ. For God’s way of making us right with Himself depends on faith. I want to know Christ and experience the mighty power that raised Him from the dead. I want to suffer with Him, sharing in His death.” — Philippians 3:8–10 (NLT)
I find myself these days less and less enamored by what the world calls success. Not that all the heartstrings are gone, but they are being cut away one by one. What I find myself longing for is Jesus. Once you discover His beauty, His love, and His true nature, everything else begins to lose its shine.
How incredible that we live in a time where we can know Jesus personally. What a gift and what a privilege to live in this moment.
“I don't want anything but You
You're more than every dream come true
All of the things I thought I wanted
Don't come close to knowing You...
Give me Jesus
You can have all this world.”
— “Give Me Jesus,” Upper Room
Prayer | Jesus, thank You for the gift of Your presence. Forgive me for the times I’ve pursued things about You more than I’ve pursued You. Draw me close to Your heart and teach me to find joy, peace, and purpose in simply knowing You. Let my life reflect the beauty of Your love above all else. Amen.
Reflection | What areas of my life have become more about doing for Jesus than simply being with Him? How can I make space this week to sit in His presence and truly know Him?
