I Am, Part 6 | Jesus, The Way, The Truth, and The Life

Key Thought | When we’re unsure where to go, Jesus doesn’t just give directions. He offers Himself.

Key Scripture | Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” —John 14:6

As we near the end of this seven-part journey through the “I Am” statements, Jesus speaks into a moment filled with uncertainty. We’ve seen Him satisfy our hunger, lead us out of darkness, invite us in through the Gate, shepherd us with care, and bring life where hope felt buried. Now, on the eve of His crucifixion, Jesus addresses the anxious hearts of His disciples.

They know something is coming, but they don’t understand it. Fear is setting in. Questions are rising. Thomas gives voice to what they’re all feeling: “Lord, we don’t know where You’re going. How can we know the way?”

Jesus doesn’t respond with a map or a set of instructions. He responds with a declaration: “I am the way.”

Not a way. Not one option among many. The way.

He goes on to say He is the truth, steady and trustworthy when everything else feels uncertain. And He is the life—not just eternal life someday, but real life that begins now in relationship with Him.

Jesus is gently reminding them that knowing the destination isn’t as important as knowing Him. To know Jesus is to know the Father. To walk with Jesus is to walk in truth. To trust Jesus is to experience life.

In moments when clarity feels out of reach, Jesus doesn’t rush us or scold our questions. He invites us to stay close. To believe. To trust His presence more than our understanding.
If you find yourself longing for clarity or direction, Jesus meets you there—not with pressure, but with reassurance. You don’t have to see the whole path ahead. You’re invited to simply walk with Him, trusting that He is enough for each step.

Prayer | Jesus, when my heart feels unsettled and my questions feel unanswered, help me remember that You are the way, the truth, and the life. Teach me to trust You even when the path feels unclear. Draw me closer to You and lead me forward in peace. Amen.
