mission statement

Opendoor Church exists to lead people to become fully-devoted followers of Jesus Christ who worship Him passionately and unashamedly by helping them know God, find freedom, and fulfill their purpose.

Our mission statement drives everything we do at Opendoor Church! We filter every idea, program, and budget request through our mission statement. We consider it our highest honor and privilege to see people know God through our Weekend Services, find freedom in Small Groups, and fulfill their purpose by serving as part of the Dream Team.

THE ROLE OF WOMEN IN MINISTRY

We are not motivated by cultural movements of the day. Our foundation is and always will be the inerrant Word of God, preserved for generations and illuminated by the power of the Holy Spirit. The original manuscripts, written in Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek, comprise the authoritative, inspired Word of God; and they will be our guide.

We will endeavor to interpret God’s Word utilizing extensive research from scholars and theologians, early manuscripts, lexical analysis, and grammatical construction to answer these two questions:

“Does the Bible endorse women in leadership?” and “Does the Bible refute women in leadership?”

This paper will address characters and verses throughout the Bible that both support and challenge our statement of belief.

OUR STORY

In the summer of 1976, Greg Kennedy and his wife, Deana, moved to Greenville, North Carolina, to pastor a church plant. ten years later, in the summer of 1986, God began to stir a vision within Greg’s heart that could only be accomplished by God. That vision led to the birth of Opendoor Church on October 5, 1986.

In 2015, Aaron Kennedy, Greg and Deana’s son, officially became the Lead Pastor of Opendoor Church. Since 1986, Opendoor has seen tremendous growth and impact in the community under Greg and Deana’s leadership, and now the baton has passed to the next generation.

God has moved in amazing ways through Opendoor over the years, and this is just the beginning. We believe the best is yet to come.

From the beginning, Opendoor Church has focused on reaching out to those who do not know God personally and building relationships through Small Groups. Over the years, our methods to reach people have changed and adapted, but our purpose remains connected to the commission by Jesus to reach people with the life-changing message of Jesus Christ that they might know God, find freedom, discover purpose, and make a difference.

We invite you to see for yourself how exciting church can be when the focus is simple and people are free to worship God passionately and unashamedly!
