A Place At The Table

“I will be your Father, and you will be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.” - 2 Corinthians 6:18 NLT

Throughout the year, there are several special occasions that bring “The Baileys” together, and food is always the center. My mother-in-law serves others by cooking heavenly, luscious meals that meet the recommended calorie intake for a week in one day. Seriously, it’s that good!  While waiting for the main course, one may hear lots of chatter, laughing, and deep conversations; but my favorite is when my husband’s father gathers the family together and shares from his heart.

As the family comes together around the table, before a word is spoken, we can sense the love Papa has for his children and grands. As he expresses how thankful he is for us coming to feast, he has happy tears and usually ends with the sweetest statement that hasn’t left me since the first time he spoke it.

“God loves a family.  This is very special.”

What a picture of how God looks at each of us every day. His unconditional love welcomes us to sit at His table with other believers and feast upon all that His presence brings. It’s a place where we feel supported, heard, accepted, and celebrated, even when correction is needed. It’s so sweet looking around and knowing that God has strategically placed the people sitting around the table with me to walk with on this journey of life.

Dear one, I want you to know that there is always a seat at the table for you with a perfect Father that demonstrates unconditional love.

JOURNAL : Are there times that you feel like you can’t come to the table that has been set for you? As you reflect, journal the words that you believe Holy Spirit is speaking over you and hang onto them. His words are precious and trustworthy.

PRAYER: Holy Spirit, continue to reveal to me who the Father is according to Your word. I know that when truth comes, I can truly see who I am and all that He has created me to be. When others let me down, Jesus will not.  I trust You fully and completely with my life. Amen
