Set Your Alarm
Don't forget to set your alarm.
I woke up when I was 29 years old. I don't know what woke me up. It was like someone put smelling salts under my nose, and I jolted into consciousness. It probably had something to do with an upcoming milestone birthday, but when I opened my eyes, my kids were out of diapers and had stopped asking for my full attention. I immediately asked myself, “What happened over the last ten years?” What did I miss?
As a young mother, we are constantly taught “not to blink,” but it happens anyway. You can't avoid it. We are in a constant loop of new seasons and new beginnings. Don’t sleep through the ride! Beginnings don’t just happen at the beginning of our lives. They are present all throughout all of our years. As humans, we get caught up in what's next. I think we worry too much about the job we keep and the house we are in (that's never big enough), but we have already arrived at our destination.
Why did God create us? He wanted a family, someone He can talk to. If we aren't doing that, we have it all wrong. He wants us to have fun and to live a conscious life! In order to do that, we must constantly refine our listening. Who are we giving our ear to? God wants it. He is there waiting for us to share our day, tell us new things, and breathe life into our Spirits, like He picked up the dust and breathed life into us at the very beginning.
We should never be pleased to dwell on a level of existence lower than that on which God made it possible for us to dwell. To do less is to be unfaithful stewards of the life entrusted to us.
What are mere mortals that you should think about them, human beings that you should care for them? Yet you made them only a little lower than God and crowned them with glory and honor. - Psalm 8:4-5
I don't know if you're awake; maybe you are still sleeping. All I know is that I woke up and did not want to fall back asleep. But I did want to start dreaming. I wanted God-sized dreams, everything He has in store for me while waiting for me to wake up and ask Him. He is waiting for you too.
PRAYER: Lord, I thank you for beginnings and inevitable endings, because that means You are moving and shaking some things up in me. Help me to not fall asleep in this life and get stuck in a selfish loop of my wants. I pray that I can experience each day as a sacred gift and celebrate the quiet miracles that seek no attention.
JOURNAL: Time to take inventory:

JOURNAL: Time to take inventory:
- Are you making time for fun?
- Are you pausing to hear His voice?
- What do you need to shift to make those things happen?
