Jesus Doesn't Wear Jordans

Jesus won't always match your pace. Sometimes there is a deeper hidden work He is doing in you, in your heart, or even in the others around you. The question is, are you going to trust that He has you?

Read 5:21-43

In this passage, Jairus’ daughter was very sick, so he pleaded with Jesus to come and put His hands on her so she could be healed. On their way to Jairus’ house, they ran into the woman with the issue of blood when she reached out and grabbed Jesus' clothes. He instantly felt the power go out of Him and turned around saying, “Who touched me?”

At this point, I’m sure Jairus was lacing up his running shoes and considering throwing Jesus over his shoulder to get Him to his daughter in time. But if you read through the Gospels, you will soon see that Jesus did not run anywhere.

“But Jesus kept looking around to see who had done it. - Mark 5:32 NIV

Jesus sees you, all of you, and He loves you so much that He will stop, turn around, and look you in the eyes, saying, “Daughter, Son, your faith has healed you; go in peace and be free from your suffering.” Please know that He will never just keep walking.

“While Jesus was still speaking, some people came from the house of Jairus, the synagogue leader. “Your daughter is dead,” they said. “Why bother the teacher anymore?”  ”Overhearing what they said, Jesus told him, “Don’t be afraid; just believe.” - Mark 5:35 NIV

Jesus eventually made it to the Jairus’ home, took his daughter by the hand, and whispered, “Little girl, get up.” Jairus only started to breathe easier when his daughter sat up, completely healed.

We are all believing for something or waiting for Jesus to put His hands on a situation. You may even have people in your ear saying, “Why even bother? Your situation is dead.” But Jesus is cheering you on from heaven. I picture Him cupping his hands around His mouth yelling, “Do not be afraid; just believe!” He may not be running as fast as you are, but He sure is making moves and shifting things you can't see and changing your heart in the process. Your heart is His number one priority.

Journal Prompt: What are those things you may need to loosen your grip on and hand back to Jesus with an open hand? Write a letter to Him and ask Him to forgive you for holding on too tight. Let Him speak to you and give you peace in return.
