Jesus Did, Too
Do you ever find yourself in a situation or season and think, ‘No one else truly understands how I feel’? Yes? I’ve been there, too.
Reflecting over the years, I can think of numerous occasions when I felt no one could relate to the challenges I was facing. Many times, I’d find myself feeling overwhelmed and alone. However, I know now that in those seasons when I felt alone and thought no one else truly understood how I was feeling, Jesus did.
You see, the Bible tells us that Jesus “became flesh and blood” and “was made in every respect like us.” - Hebrews 2:14, 17 NLT It goes on to say, “Since he himself has gone through suffering and testing, he is able to help us when we are being tested.” - Hebrews 2:18 NLT
During His time on earth, Jesus—fully man and fully God—experienced temptation, weariness, criticism, and a full range of emotions, yet he did not sin. Instead, He maintained His divinity, providing us with a godly example of how to navigate the many stresses of life.
Are you struggling with temptation? Jesus was tempted, too. (Matthew 4:1-11)
Are you tired and weary? Jesus experienced weariness, too. (John 4:6)
Are you sad or brokenhearted? Jesus experienced sadness, too. (John 11:35)
No matter what we find ourselves going through, we can be encouraged to know that we serve a relational God that understands. I don’t know about you, but the more I learn of Jesus’ time on earth, the more I am encouraged!
As we prepare our hearts for the upcoming Easter season, may we not forget who our God is. We do not worship a distant God. Our God loves us so much that He sent His Son to become human—a “friend of sinners”—and serve as the ultimate sacrifice for those who believe in Him, freeing us from sin and offering us an eternal destiny.
JOURNAL: Is there an area of your life you feel no one can relate to? Take a moment to write this down. Allow yourself to feel the emotions. Share these with God and be encouraged and know that you are not alone. Jesus can help us because He, too, has endured suffering and testing.
PRAYER: Thank You, God, for loving me and making a way, through Jesus, that I may experience true freedom and one day get to join You in the heavenly realms. Though this life has its many challenges, I am encouraged to know that I do not have to face the challenges of today by myself. Instead, I will wait for You, Lord. You are my strength and my rock. Let my heart take courage in You. I love You. I ask this in Jesus’ name. Amen.
