Unity in Christ

READ: Philippians 2

Paul asks if our hearts are tender and compassionate. He urges us to work together with one mind and one purpose, reminding us not to be selfish, but humble, thinking of others as better than ourselves.

The Apostle Paul had a truly deep commitment to spiritual unity. Jesus Himself prays for unity in John 17:20-22. “I am praying not only for these disciples but also for all who will ever believe in me through their message. I pray that they will all be one, just as you and I are one- as you are in me, Father, and I am in you.” It is the Christ in our brothers and sisters who reach out to the Christ in us. We are all united in Him and through Him.

When I was asking the Lord how to actually go about this, a picture came to mind. It was a simple triangle. A point on the bottom would be you, and the other point would be fellow Christians, with God being at the top of the triangle. As we all strive for the attitude of Christ laid out in Philippians 2 and grow closer to Him, we will ultimately grow closer to one another as the church.

“Sympathize with each other. Love each other as brothers and sisters. Be tenderhearted, and keep a humble attitude.” - 1 Peter 3:8

JOURNAL: Ask God who you should pray for today.

PRAYER: Lord, keep our hearts tender and fill us with compassion. Help us to work together with one mind and one purpose. Remove our selfish ambitions. Put the needs of others in the forefront of our minds. Remind us of what is truly important.
