Lost and Found: Prodigal Stories in Scripture

The story of the prodigal son in Luke 15 is one of the most well-known parables in the Bible. It’s a story of rebellion, regret, and redemption. But the prodigal son isn’t the only one who has wandered from God’s path. Throughout Scripture, we see people who turned away, made mistakes, and yet, when they repented, found the Father’s arms wide open. Their stories remind us that no matter how far we’ve strayed, God is always ready to welcome us home.

Jonah: Running from God’s Call
Jonah was a prophet who thought he could outrun God’s plan. Instead of obeying, he fled in the opposite direction. Only when he found himself in the belly of a great fish did he realize his mistake. When Jonah repented, God gave him another chance.

REFLECT:
It’s never too late to come home. Have you been putting off making things right with God?

Every one of these prodigals had a turning point. This was the moment they realized their way had led them into trouble, and they needed God’s grace. The same is true for us. We all have moments when we stray, when we ignore God’s wisdom and do things our own way. But the good news is that, just like the father in the prodigal son’s story, God is always watching, waiting, and ready to embrace us the moment we turn back to Him.

No matter how far you’ve wandered, it’s not too late to come home. The Father is waiting. Will you return?
