From Waiting to Walking – Life After Pentecost

READ: Acts 1:4-5; Acts 2:37-41; 1 Corinthians 15:20

Before Pentecost, Peter was uncertain, impulsive, and afraid, denying Jesus when it mattered most. But after Pentecost, empowered by the Holy Spirit, he stood boldly, preached with clarity, and led thousands to Christ. What changed? The presence and power of the Holy Spirit.

Pentecost—50 days after the resurrection, during the Feast of Weeks—marked the birth of the Church. Just as Jesus rose on the Feast of First Fruits as the “firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep” (1 Cor. 15:20), the Church was born during a harvest feast, signaling a new kind of spiritual harvest.

Jesus told His disciples to wait. No timeline. No strategy. Just obedience and faith. The 120 didn’t get details. They simply stayed in place, trusting His word; and in their waiting, God moved. The question for the church today is can we obey without details? Can we stay still long enough to hear? Can we trust when we don’t feel productive?

In the book of the Acts of the Apostles, chapter two gives us a mandate that is still true today. Repent, be baptized, and receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. We can rely on the Holy Spirit to bring conviction, not condemnation. He pulls us closer, not away. He brings power, boldness, and the ability to carry out God’s mission, not just emotion or performance.

Pentecost is a celebration of the Spirit empowered believer who have laid down their works to respond to the invitation of Jesus. We must recognize the invitation to simply wait. Ask yourself, am I willing to be still so that He can move? Where am I rushing where the Holy Spirit may be inviting me to wait for Him and His fulfilling power?

PRAYER:
Lord, help me obey even when I don’t understand. Teach me to wait in faith, to listen with expectation, and to walk in the power of Your Spirit. Like Peter, make me bold—not because of who I am, but because of who You are in me.
