May the Scales Continue to Fall

I recently had an amazing opportunity to travel to Greece to walk “The Footsteps of Paul.” Honestly, I’m still reminiscing and processing all the sights and history we experienced. As our team traveled through Neopolis (current Kavala) Thessaloniki, Berea (Veria), and the ruins of Philippi and Corinth, I couldn’t help but think about Saul’s conversion to Paul.

Then Ananias went to the house and entered it. Placing his hands on Saul, he said, “Brother Saul, the Lord—Jesus, who appeared to you on the road as you were coming here—has sent me so that you may see again and be filled with the Holy Spirit.” Immediately, something like scales fell from Saul’s eyes, and he could see again. He got up and was baptized, and after taking some food, he regained his strength. Saul spent several days with the disciples in Damascus. – Acts 9:17-19

Every step I took on the journey felt like scales falling off my own eyes as I learned something new at each place we visited. One evening, we got lost in the night life of Thessaloniki and saw what I believe was similar to what Paul witnessed as he traveled through the Greek cities sharing the Word. It was pretty frightening, and the feeling of hopelessness surrounded me as I walked past men and women living a life I cannot imagine.

As our group walked through the dark area, I thought about the courage it must have taken for Paul to stand up in an environment like that and share about Jesus. Paul faced persecution and criticism from Jewish and Roman leaders; and like most of the disciples and apostles, Paul faced threat and danger, and ultimately, his belief in Jesus led to his own death.

Paul’s journey and testimony caused many to know The Lord. His story is quite amazing considering he was transformed from a murderer of believers to a converter of non-believers. As I continue on my own journey through life, I pray that, like the Apostle Paul, the scales will keep falling from my eyes and that I may see more clearly and gain a deeper understanding and relationship with The Lord. This is my prayer for all of us.

Some things to think about:
Am I growing closer to the Lord?
What steps am I taking to get to know Him?
Do I share my faith with others?
Am I a brave believer?
