Didn't Our Hearts Burn | Part Five

Part Five | Peace
Key Thought | Peace is not something we achieve; it is something Jesus gives.
Key Scripture | “Then the two from Emmaus told their story of how Jesus had appeared to them as they were walking along the road, and how they had recognized him as he was breaking the bread. And just as they were telling about it, Jesus himself was suddenly standing there among them. ‘Peace be with you,’ he said.” —Luke 24:35–36 (NLT)
As we close our journey this week, I want to spend a moment with these verses.
The two men return to where the disciples are gathered and begin to share their story, how they encountered Jesus on the road and recognized Him in the breaking of bread. And right in the middle of their testimony, the resurrected Jesus suddenly appears in the room and speaks these words: “Peace be with you.”
Many in that room had failed Him. They had abandoned Him as He hung on the cross. And yet, here He was, standing before them. He wasn’t angry. He wasn’t frustrated. And most of all, He was alive.
It’s almost as if He knew they would fail. That they would run. And yet, He still came looking for them.
On this final day of our journey, can we pause and simply sit with that statement?
Jesus brings peace. It’s not something we strive to find or manage on our own. It’s a gift we receive, not a feeling we manufacture. It’s not based on our performance, our status, or our success. It is something He freely gives.
As we close this week, take a moment to be still and receive.
In all your striving to find Him, you may discover that He has been present all along, simply waiting to be acknowledged.
Today, let go of the need to earn peace and allow yourself to receive it. Invite Jesus into the places of fear, failure, and uncertainty, and let His presence speak what your heart most needs to hear.
Prayer | Jesus, thank You for meeting me not with judgment, but with peace. Help me to receive what You freely give and to rest in Your presence. Quiet my striving and anchor my heart in You. Amen.

Reflection
- Where are you still striving for peace instead of receiving it?
- What might change if you truly believed Jesus meets you with peace, even in your failures?
