Still Burning, Part 2 | Hungry Again

Key Thought | What we hunger for shapes what we pursue, and God longs to restore our appetite for Him.
Key Scripture | “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled.” —Matthew 5:6 (NKJV)
As we continue this five-part journey, we move from affection to appetite. In Part 1, Jesus invited us to return to our first love. Now, He gently draws our attention to what shapes that love—our desires.
Once love begins to stir again, the next thing God often touches is our desire. Because what we hunger for eventually shapes how we live.
Jesus says those who hunger and thirst for righteousness are blessed—not because hunger is comfortable, but because it leads us somewhere. Hunger moves us. It motivates us. It reveals what we believe will satisfy us most.
The truth is, our appetites are always being formed. Over time, we learn to crave convenience, distraction, affirmation, control. None of those things are inherently wrong, but they were never meant to replace a hunger for God.
Spiritual hunger can fade quietly. Not because God has moved, but because our attention has. We fill our lives so full that there’s little room left to desire Him deeply. And yet, when hunger begins to awaken again—when we long to read His Word, to pray honestly, to create space through fasting—it’s not something to suppress. It’s something to steward.
God doesn’t shame hunger. He promises to fill it.
Renewal rarely begins with willpower. It begins when God gently restores desire. When He reminds us that He alone satisfies what nothing else ever could.
Ask the Holy Spirit to gently reshape your appetite. Not through pressure or performance, but through presence. Hunger for God is not something to manufacture; it’s something He restores.
Prayer | God, awaken my hunger for You again. Where my desires have grown dull or misdirected, stir them with Your Spirit. Teach me to seek what truly satisfies. Amen.
