Obedient Faith | Called Beyond Comfort, Part 2

Key Thought | God responds to faith that obeys—and He strengthens faith that must wait.
Key Scripture | “And it is impossible to please God without faith…” — Hebrews 11:6
Esther’s story reminds us that faith is not just something we believe. It is something we live.
When Mordecai challenged Esther to step forward, she did not immediately run to the king. Instead, she asked the people to fast and pray for three days. Esther understood something many of us struggle to remember: the most important preparation for courageous action is spiritual dependence.
Faith often begins quietly: in prayer, surrender, and trust.
Eventually, Esther did step forward. She risked her life to obey what she believed God was calling her to do. Scripture tells us that real faith is revealed through action.
“Faith without works is dead.” — James 2:26
But obedience is only part of the journey. The other part of faith is learning how to wait.
After Esther took her courageous step, the story does not resolve immediately. Instead, there is a quiet and almost strange moment in the narrative:
“That night the king could not sleep.” — Esther 6:1
At first glance, it seems insignificant. But that sleepless night would set off a chain of events that would ultimately save Esther’s people.
Sometimes God works in dramatic ways, but often He works in quiet, unseen moments — in timing, circumstances, and details we would never expect.
While Esther fasted and waited, God was already moving behind the scenes.
The same is true in our lives. We often want immediate answers, but faith requires trusting that God is working even when we cannot see it yet.
Waiting does not mean God is inactive. Often, waiting is simply the space where God is preparing the outcome.
Faith obeys what God asks us to do today and trusts Him with what happens tomorrow.
Don’t confuse God’s silence with God’s absence. Obey what you know, and wait with trust where you don’t. Today, choose one act of obedience and surrender your timeline.
Prayer | God, Strengthen my faith to obey You quickly and to wait on You patiently. Keep my heart from striving and my mind from spiraling. Teach me to trust that You are working even when I can’t see it. Amen.

Reflection
- What act of obedience have I been delaying because I’m afraid of the outcome?
- Where am I struggling to wait on God without trying to control the process?
