A Mother's Love
Recently, I was talking with a new mother. When she found out that I have three children of my own, she shared that she has often thought about when she and her husband might have another child at some point and how she can’t imagine loving anyone else as much as she loves her baby. I could relate. I remember feeling the same when I found out we were having a second child. How could the love that I felt for our first born be matched? But then our middle son showed up and, just like the grinch, my heart grew three sizes that day. And the same happened for our third son!
The same is true for our Heavenly Father. Sometimes it’s hard to grasp how much He truly loves us and that nothing could ever change that. Regardless of our position in life or how many mistakes we make, our position with Him is always secure. He loves us just as much as we love our own children, and even more.
And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God. - Ephesians 3:18-19 NLT
Knowing God loves us and experiencing it are two very different things. Our children can know that we love them, because we tell them, but feeling it requires effort on both sides. Not only must we show them we love them by taking care of them, spending time with them, and meeting their needs, but they must also lean into and embrace the love that we give. The same is true for God. It’s not enough that He takes care of us and meets our every need; we’ve got to do our part too. We must lean into His love and fully embrace all that He has to give. We must seek Him first in all we do. We must take the time to sit in His presence and bask in His loving arms. Only then can we fully experience the warmth of His unconditional love.
JOURNAL: Are you fully embracing the love that God has for you? Are you doing your part to experience the love that He gives?
ACTIVATION/PRAYER: Take time each day to thank God for loving you and lean into the fullness of that love by spending time with Him and reading His Word.
