Divine Detours
For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal. - 2 Corinthians 4:17-18 NKJV
Life doesn’t always go as planned. The unexpected speed bumps in life can often send us spiraling, but God always has a plan. And His plan is always better than ours.
Last year at this time, we faced one of the biggest challenges our family has ever faced. A series of circumstances and a job offer from another state suddenly caused our family to consider moving from the place we had called home for the past 23 years. It was devastating to me.
Within the span of three weeks, we made the decisions to move, put our house on the market, packed everything into the back of a U-haul, and said our goodbyes. This was not my plan. My plan was to live out the rest of my days in NC. I had friends, a church family, and a happy life. There was nothing that made me want to leave any of it.
But God had other plans.
I’d love to say I rallied and faced it with a sense of calm and grace. My attitude was far from right. Despite my anger, frustration, and tears, God walked with me through it all. He wasn’t afraid of my emotions.
In the Bible, there were countless people who showed their anger and frustration toward God. Job suffered great loss in his life and family, Jonah was called to deliver a message to the wicked city of Ninevah, and David lost his son Absalom. All expressed their emotions to God, and God still loved them.
In his kindness God called you to share in his eternal glory by means of Christ Jesus. So after you have suffered a little while, he will restore, support, and strengthen you, and he will place you on a firm foundation. - 1 Peter 5:10 NLT
We all go through difficult times, and sometimes we don’t handle them as well as we should. God doesn’t allow us to go through trials to hurt us; He always has a bigger plan. When we go through the valleys of life, we grow our faith and ultimately bring honor and glory to Him.

ACTIVATION: Be real with God. Tell Him how you feel. Trust Him with your emotions and know that He will always love you unconditionally and walk you through even the darkest hours.
