Be the Light
Some of my favorite moments can be found on fall evenings after the sun goes down, sitting in front of a cozy fire with a blanket wrapped around my legs and a cup of coffee in hand. It’s a time that I often spend time with Jesus, reflecting on life, and allowing Him to speak to me personally. There is something about “getting away” from the busy and resting in Him.
With all the things happening in the world around us, if I don’t get alone with Jesus, my heart can start to wander outside the heart of God. I can get so caught up in the events that are happening that I find myself getting emotional, offended, and losing hope.
Last night, as I sat in front of the fire pit, I was reminded of Jesus’ words in Matthew 5:16-17:
You are the light of the world. You cannot hide a city that is on a mountain. Men do not light a lamp and put it under a basket. They put it on a table so it gives light to all in the house. Let your light shine in front of men. Then they will see the good things you do and will honor your Father Who is in heaven.
I felt God whispering, “I am still in charge, and I will bring hope through anyone that stays focused on Me and My Word. My Word is true. I am coming back soon; but until then, be the light. Shine as bright as the fire is before you so that others will know Me and of My love for them.”
His words are the same for you, dear one. Be the light wherever God has you at this moment. Where you shine may be different from me, but the effect of the light is all the same. Whether it’s in the workplace, your home, a hard conversation with a friend that has a different perspective, or even in a foreign country, people need to find their way home to Jesus. God wants to use you in every way possible to gather His family.
ACTIVATION: Is there a particular person or group of people that you feel God is calling you to be the light in a dark place? No need to be afraid. If He’s called you to them, know that He is with you during conversations. Yield to His Spirit and watch all that God does through you. Remember, people are drawn to the light. You simply get to love like Jesus did and still does today.
PRAYER: God, I pray that you will fill me completely with the Holy Spirit. Give me eyes to see, ears to hear, and a heart to obey everything You ask me to do. Equip me to do everything You have called me to do. May You receive all the glory, honor, and praise. Amen.
