A Peace I Don't Understand
I think we have the idea of peace all wrong. This is probably because we often only think about peace when we are in the middle of conflict. There is a war going on. Your anxiety has returned. You’ve lost your job. A loved one has passed. It is in moments like this that peace feels completely unattainable. The reality is that Jesus came to bring us peace and, more specifically, a peace that passes all understanding. So what is this peace that we can’t even understand? Jesus talks about it John.
I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.” - John 16:33 NLT
JOURNAL: Take some time to reflect and write moments in Scripture where God brought peace even in the midst of a difficult situation.
Jesus teaches us that this peace is not an absence of pain and problems, but rather an understanding that there is nothing in this world that has not been overcome by Jesus. He is the one that offers gentle comfort even in the midst of our most trying seasons. Not only did he do the work to defeat the issues we face on this earth, but He also sent us a helper.
But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me: John 15:26kjv
We have been gifted the Holy Spirit who never leaves us or forsakes us. Does that mean we will never walk through trouble? No. It means we never have to walk through trouble alone!
ACTIVATION: Take time throughout the day to invite the Holy Spirit into your daily activities, at work, school, spending time with family or friends. It doesn’t have to be a long drawn-out prayer, just simply acknowledging that He is present.
The Christmas season is often seen as a time of peace; but for many, it brings great sorrow. You may be feeling alone or grieving a lost loved one. Money may be tight, and you're not able to celebrate Christmas the way you see others celebrating. These are realities for so many, but whatever you are walking through does not have to rob you of your peace. Through Christ and in the power of the Holy Spirit, we can have peace even in the hardest of circumstances.
PRAYER: God grant me Your supernatural peace when I am struggling the most. Remind me of Your love for me and that You have already overcome any challenges that I face. Holy Spirit, be near. In Jesus name, Amen.
