Have You Ever Been Scared for Your Life?
READ: Joshua 2
Rahab had heard about God. She had heard that He was planning to give the land of Jericho, where she lived, to the Israelites. She told the spies in Joshua 2, “We are all afraid of you. Everyone in the land is living in terror. For we have heard the Lord make a dry path for you through the Red Sea.” She had already heard about God, but she was still living as a prostitute. Until she met the spies Joshua sent to her city. Rahab had a reverent, Holy fear of God. So much so that she completely turned her life around.
Personally, I have never been scared for my life. I've actually lived a very easy life with little fear and trauma, and I’ve also taken that for granted. Growing up in church, my mom worked at my church for as long as I can remember. Because I was there so often, I was given the nickname “church mouse.” I didn’t need to fear for my life; my needs were met, and I felt safe. So I don’t remember the exact moment I was saved. I unknowingly fell into religion.
As I have grown, I have experienced hardships and the helplessness of needing a God to save me. Fear can push you into the arms of Jesus. I needed something to happen to shake me out of religion and push me into a relationship with Him. Whoever thought fear could be a good thing?
Rahab was honored by God for hiding the spies, for accepting their terms. Her entire family was saved from the city's destruction. She put her faith into action, and for her obedience, she was one of the two women in the “Hall of Faith.” (Hebrews 11:31) Her fear pushed her to repentance, and her life was completely changed. She ended up marrying and having a son, Boaz. Which put her in the Genealogy of Jesus.
PROMPT: What turned your life around? Was it your last resort or was “Christianity” something you have just always done? Document why you fell in love with Jesus.
PRAYER: Read Psalm 25 aloud.
