You Can Trust the Word
Your Word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path. Psalm 119:105.
Such a great scripture. The Word of God is a light; it brings illumination to everything. Many years ago, I saw something in Scripture that brought this verse to life for me and ties all of Scripture together. It comes out of the temple; and as we discuss the lampstand, let’s take a closer look and see what the lampstand itself has to say about the Word of God.
“Make a lampstand of pure gold. Hammer out its base and shaft, and make its flowerlike cups, buds and blossoms of one piece with them. Six branches are to extend from the sides of the lampstand—three on one side and three on the other. Three cups shaped like almond flowers with buds and blossoms are to be on one branch, three on the next branch, and the same for all six branches extending from the lampstand. And on the lampstand there are to be four cups shaped like almond flowers with buds and blossoms. One bud shall be under the first pair of branches extending from the lampstand, a second bud under the second pair, and a third bud under the third pair—six branches in all. The buds and branches shall all be of one piece with the lampstand, hammered out of pure gold.”
“Then make its seven lamps and set them up on it so that they light the space in front of it. Its wick trimmers and trays are to be of pure gold. A talent[f] of pure gold is to be used for the lampstand and all these accessories. See that you make them according to the pattern shown to you on the mountain”. Ex 25:31-40
The instructions to build the lampstand were very specific. We are going to look at some numerology and symbolism to unlock several of the mysteries associated with the lampstand.
I know man was involved with the compilation of the Bible, but I hope you can see that it was God-ordained. From the instructions of the Temple, He was very specific about the lampstand, what it would represent, and how it ties all the books of the Bible together and was meant to bring light in the middle of darkness.
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” John 1:1-5
I love how John, under the influence of the Holy Spirit, wrote that Jesus was the Word that was with God from the beginning. He was the Light that would shine in the darkness, and that the darkness would not overcome it. The Bible is trustworthy. God told us way back at the Temple of Moses that He would orchestrate a book, and it would point and give light to the Godhead, the Trinity, and perfect government. He also told us the number of books it would contain and that it would be powered by the oil of the Holy Spirit. The Lampstand was merely a type and shadow of the true revelation that was to come in the person of Jesus Christ the Messiah.
You can trust the Word of God. It only contains truth, so go ahead and resign yourself to believing His Word and trusting His Word at all costs. It is a decision you make and live by.
JOURNAL: Lord, please help me to see the areas of my life that I have not trusted You to light my path and trust in the Word that You have already given to us. Breathe fresh on Your Word for me so I can hear Your heart more clearly.

- There are seven lamps, which equals the number of completion. The Word of God is complete in its illumination of God’s heart.
- Three branches on each side of the main stem branch. Three is the number of the Triune being of God (Father, Son, Holy Spirit); the number 1 (main stem) is the supreme divinity of God. So the triune being is tied directly to the supreme being of God. Keep in mind, it was to be hammered out into one piece of gold, which speaks of it all being connected together as one, not pieced together, and no separation.
- Each of the 6 branches have three sets of cups, buds, and blossoms; each one represents an aspect of the trinity. So if you add up each cup, bud, and blossom on each branch, you get the number 9.
- Nine represents the Fruit of the Spirit
- On the main stem, we see an extra set of cup, bud, and blossom, which makes 12 on the main stem. Twelve is the number of perfect government. It represents the 12 tribes of Israel, and we also see the 12 apostles in the New Testament.
- If you add all of this up, 9 is the number of all the cup, bud, and blossoms from each of the 6 branches. So 9x6=54. Then add the number from the main stem, which is 12. 54+12 = 66. Does the number 66 sound familiar? It’s the number of books in the Bible.
- If we go one step further and add up the 3 branches with the main stem, 9x3=27. Then 27+12 = 39. Then take the other 3 branches, 9x3=27.
- Thirty-nine is the number of books in the Old Testament, and 27 is the number of books in the New Testament.

Thank you for explaining the symbolism as it now makes sense to me and it reinforces the truth of God’s word!
