Rhythm of Communication
If you've ever read The Five Love Languages by Gary Chapman, then you are familiar with the different ways that people show and feel love. This concept applies to all relationships and helps us better understand how to navigate the complexities of friendship and marriage, ensuring that all parties find fulfillment. I believe the Tabernacle in Scripture reveals to us one of God’s greatest love languages: Quality Time.
“Then have them make a sanctuary for me, and I will dwell among them.” Exodus 25:8 NIV
The Tabernacle was not designed to establish a set of rules; its purpose was to provide a dwelling place for God among His people. At times, we may mistakenly believe that God's primary love language is Acts of Service, leading us to try to demonstrate our love by engaging in various spiritual activities. However, the Tabernacle serves as a reminder that this is not the case.
Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me. - Revelation 3:20
Nevertheless, I am continually with you; you hold my right hand. You guide me with your counsel, and afterward you will receive me to glory. Whom have I in heaven but you? And there is nothing on earth that I desire besides you. My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. - Psalm 73:23-26
Scripture clearly shows us that God wants to spend time with us.
Personally, I can relate to what God is saying here. My greatest love language is Quality Time as well. I often feel closer to those I consistently communicate with. It doesn’t mean I have to see them every day, but it’s important that there is a rhythm of communication established and maintained between us.
Do you have a rhythm of communication with your Heavenly Father? Are you taking time to acknowledge His presence every day? Just as it would damage our relationship if we didn’t speak to our spouse for weeks on end, it hinders our connection with God just the same.
It’s never too late to establish a rhythm of prayer, so start today!
ACTIVATION: Here are a few ways you can establish a rhythm of communication and quality time with God.

ACTIVATION: Here are a few ways you can establish a rhythm of communication and quality time with God.
- Take time each day to commune with God. Talk to Him like you would a friend. Cast your worries at His feet and leave them there.
- Make plans to join us for prayer each Tuesday, starting October 15, from 12:00-1:00pm at Opendoor at Immanuel.
