Finishing Strong

Leaving a legacy is more than material possessions; it is a way of spiritually giving from generation to generation. Legacy goes beyond and gives far more than you could ever imagine, impacting the lives of many that come close every day. One may pass on to eternity, but their faith, love, and way of life lives on, as far as those left living decides to carry it.

Recently, we had a staff member, Ms. Debra, pass away fairly quickly after being diagnosed with cancer.  It was and still is heartbreaking for the team. Every week, she would encourage our team with the most inspiring words, and she would close out her written messages with the words, “Let’s finish strong!”

Her words mattered and still matter two weeks after her death. I think of her often. She had a smile on her face, demonstrating true joy, even through her sickness.  She cared about those around her more than she cared about herself. One would leave her presence with a hope of all that God can do and will do. Her confidence of knowing that she was HIS was contagious.  Ms. Debra’s  life example influenced people until her last breath. She, in her own words, “Finished Strong!”

The legacy that she leaves with our staff at Opendoor is a product of her faithfulness in the presence of Jesus. The overflow of His love poured out upon all those that were in close proximity to her, at home and in the workplace. Ms. Debra was the sweetest picture of who Jesus is and what He is all about. She was about her Father’s business; and when she entered into the gates of heaven, I know she was met by her beloved Savior, and she heard the words, “Well done my daughter, my good and faithful servant. You did well, and You finished strong.”

PRAYER:
Finishing strong - that’s my prayer for you as you are reading this devotional. May Holy Spirit empower you and fill you everyday as you draw near to Him, not only for your gain but for those you encounter each day. May He be seen in you as you encourage, love, comfort, and support those along the way, by the way, and on the way in life. And finally, because of your faithfulness, may the legacy you leave pass from one generation to the next.
